Ft. Delaware v. Ft. Sumter: New York Towns Threaten Secession Over Gov. Cuomo's Ban On Fracking
huffingtonpost,com
"Fifteen New York towns that are upset at Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo's decision to ban fracking have threatened to secede from the state and join neighboring Pennsylvania, where fracking is allowed.  The towns, all members of the Upstate New York Towns Association, have expressed interest in secession, Conklin Town Supervisor Jim Finch told The Huffington Post. The association is compiling a report to assess the feasibility of joining Pennsylvania.  'We're in the Southern Tier of New York," Finch said, referring to localities in Broome, Tioga, Sullivan and Delaware counties. "There are no jobs. The economy is terrible. There's nothing going on.'

Fine Wine In Them Hills: The Road to Eminence (via the Catskills)
chambersstwines.com
"Eminence is run by Andrew Scott and Jennifer Clark, who work with three growers in the Finger Lakes region; two are situated on the east side of Seneca Lake and one on the west side of Cayuga. The wines are vinified in an old cow barn at their property in the Catskills. The nineteen-acre property served as a dairy farm in the past. These days the land sprouts phenomenally large pumpkins, not far off in size from the comically futuristic vegetables depicted in Woody Allen's 1973 movie "Sleeper." The land also provides roaming ground for Lester, the Sharpee-Husky-Bulldog mutt, adopted from a neighbor."

Farm To Table To YouTube: New cooking show highlights Catskill food and the farmers who grow it
riverreporter.com
"The episodes will stream on YouTube and there will be a new one each week. "It's a combination of my passion for local food and cooking, and also my friends and I watch a lot of YouTube shows," Wilson said of how "Cat's Catskill Cooking" came about. Right now they are still in the planning stages and want to wait until the summer season to start shooting because, of course, there isn't much growing on local farms during the winter. Visiting the farms also will be an integral part of the show. Wilson said she wants to go to the farm and interview the farmers for each episode. Although, she jokes, "I have a farmer friend that would rather me film his vegetables than him." She will then highlight the farm's products in a recipe she will make on the show (shot in her kitchen in Woodridge). "

"The investigation found that schools were requiring illegal enrollment materials from families, including copies ofSocial Security cards and visa expiration dates, which illegal immigrants generally would not have. By asking for them, Ms. Clarke said, districts violate a 1982 Supreme Court decision, Plyler v. Doe, which found that schools cannot deny access to public education on the basis of a student's immigration status.".  Read More - nytimes.com
